ABIDE
7

My life is here.
My feet were somewhere ahead.
Always becoming.
Today, I remain.
I greet the softly waking day.
I watch the shadows drift away.
The morning asks no proof from me.
The trees receive the gentle rain.
The fields receive the sun again.
I open what I used to hide.
And quietly... abide.
I do not earn the morning light.
I do not hold the passing time.
The earth receives what heaven gives.
The river keeps no score.
The life I've searched for all these years...
Has always reached my door.
I leave tomorrow where it stays.
I walk within these given days.
This moment never asks for more.
The wind receives the open sky.
The mountains never question why.
I loosen every careful plan.
And let today be where I am.
The life I've searched for all these years...
Has always reached my door.
I still forget.
I still reach forward.
I still believe that life begins tomorrow.
Then I breathe.
And remember...
it has been here all along.
I do not fear the setting sun.
I do not chase what I must become.
The seed receives the patient rain.
The harvest has its day.
The deepest things I ever hold...
Arrive when I stay.
Abiding isn't
standing still.
It's finally
standing
here.
Here...
I remain.
