THE RIVER KNOWS

10

The river simply... flows

I watch the water find its way.
It never mourns the passing day.
It doesn't hurry toward the sea.
Each turning bend becomes its guide.
Each quiet current turns the tide.
It never fears what's still unknown.
It flows as though it's home.

Perhaps I'm not so far from home.
Perhaps I've never walked alone.
The river doesn't chase the sea.
It flows toward what it's always known.
I stop becoming just to be...
And find that I am home.

It meets the stones along its way.
It leaves them smoother every day.
It never mistakes the bend for loss.
Each roughened place becomes its guide.
Each narrowing deepens the tide.
It does not fear what waits beyond.
It flows because it belongs.

Perhaps I'm not so far from home.
Perhaps I've never walked alone.
The river doesn't chase the sea.
It flows toward what it's always known.
I stop becoming just to be...
And find that I am home.

It never longs for someone else's stream.
It never chases someone else's dream.
It never doubts the course it's given.
The sea has never been in flight.
It waits beyond the edge of sight.
Perhaps the river always knew.
And I am learning too.

Perhaps I'm not so far from home.
Perhaps I've never walked alone.
The river doesn't chase the sea.
It flows toward what it's always known.
I stop becoming just to be...
And find that I am known.

I am known.
